i only dropped the lazy, because people at my field tend to call me that when i wait to go for the flag, and i agree, a lot of the good players are still in, i was referring to exactly who you mentioned, the timid players who dont advance, yet where i play, the advanced players rush in first because we know the fields because we built the fields, another huge advantage (put some time in at your local field, volunteer and help set up bunkers and fortifications, walking around the field without gear and without a mask on help you learn the land better than concentrating on staying alive

also, concentrate on your environment, look for areas where you will have an advantage even if your out numbered, look for ambush spots where you can lay and wait for enemies to pass you and reveal their back side to you, patients is definitely one of the best strategies

great advice. knowing a field is a definite "home" team advantage.

Frankly I find the sprinters to be the lazy ones. Most sprinters I play with are finished with their game in less than 2 minutes, where the rest of us can be moving and playing for half an hour or more. They run for a minute or two, then go sit in the shade for half an hour and complain about how they were taken out by a 'camper' who had the forethought to shoot the guy sprinting at him from behind cover.

this is why i like this forums, people here are smart, at my park i get made fun of, but every game i win with a flag grab and a shoot out at my base on my return for the win, i am always the last one alive, have the enemy flag, return to my base, camp outside it, asses situation, eliminate by taking one shot from long range through bushes one well placed shot... slowly move back depending on which path i took back to get home i either slowly move left or right, but either case im flanking around the edges in the perimiter where they cant see me, and when i get behind them, if they dont see me, and are clearly looking at my last position, ill sneak up behind them, pull my pistol out, (usually two guys left) and with 8.1 in left hand, and 9 on sling in right standing straight up behind them, i like to put my barrels in their sides and ask for surrenders, if they see me while im sneaking up and start to shoot, ill drop take a shot, and scurry to the right, or left 50 ft, and engage again, and move another 50 ft and engage again, but if your all alone, when engaging an enemy fortified position, put yourself on the edge and its best to fire from 180 degree's apart each shot, that way they are left guessing and think they are out gunned

Default Tactics

Some of my most enjoyable outings are with family or neighbors. U teach them some basic tactics. Like to the neighbor, we called it "leap frogging." Working thru the brush, leap frogging and covering the other (2-4 people) advancing until we drew a response. Then the "back" individual(s) were sometimes in the position to out flank the opponents, "target rich environment." Great fun.

Also when I go out with my sons, I'd play "wing man." They just loved rushing up as far as they can without getting called out (doesn't always work - but that's part of the game). When it does, they are usually pinned down by cross fire (they created a paintstorm) and someone has to come by and put our the fire at least lay down some suppressing fire so they can get a better position (and some great angles on their opponents). That's how we move up the field.

Darth had mentioned "home field" advantage (which is true). But, I sometime enjoy not having that knowledge - being at a new field - and having to "think on your feet" and use the training you have or have gleaned from others. At new fields, you fall into traps and get caught in poor defendable positions. You have to get small fast or you are out.

dont get me wrong, my most favorable moments are those when i dont know the place, every weekend i practice and get my skills better at my home field, so that when i decide to travel and its my first time on that field, i make a good first impression

in my end, my main goal is skill for when i play at non-familure fields
